“Be Still! Will You? Quit Squirming!”

Harmony:

An environment of pleasant acceptance and secure love.

(1 Timothy 2:2-3)

For some reason whenever I read the word “harmony” I can’t help but see a young lady in a long flowy dress or some long-haired guy in a tie-dyed shirt and bell bottom pants!  She has flowers in her hair, sitting with legs crossed and fingers up in a meditative position. Haha! maybe I am showing my age a little, but when I see that image of harmony I also feel peace.  It’s sorta’ like a warm gentle breeze, singing birds and warm sun touching my skin.

When I feel a sense of real harmony, I also feel a connection with my Heavenly Father and Psalm 46:10 “Be Still and Know that I am God”  whispers into my heart. He is my true source of real harmony!

Can you feel your soul in harmony with your Father as you sit quietly, get still, listen to worshipful music, gaze into a starlit night sky, and wait quietly before The Lord? Do you hear His whispers in your heart? What is He saying to you? Can you feel His incredible love for you? Ahhhh! That is TRUE harmony!

What about in your home? Do you have harmony in your home or is it in a constant state of chaos? Granted, there will be days, especially Monday’s (Can I get an amen?) that life will be rushed, frazzled and just plain busy, but when that happens, can you find or make some time to breakaway to “be still” with your Father for just a moment?  I know you may have to wait longer than you’d like (longer than He’d want), but do you take what you can get to simply be still?

Matthew 11:28 says: “Come to ME all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest “. Some Mondays (or any days)  may just qualify as wearisome and burdensome! 😉 Can you see that God desires our lives to be in harmony with Him, and His Word tells us how to do that. When our lives are in harmony with God, don’t you think our homes would have a better chance to reflect the peace He offers?   Harmony with God certainly impacts harmony with those around us!

Let’s break down Psalm 46:10:

  • The first word, “BE.” Be is a tiny word but has big implications! I don’t know about you but sometimes I ask myself, “Do I even know how to just “BE”? Something I need to practice for sure.
  • The second word: “STILL” Being “still” means in your mind and spirit, not just being physically motionless. I can be physically still for the most part, even still my heart to hear the Lord, but my mind …well, that is another story. My mind wanders, and I have to “reel it in” often.
  • The next two words: “AND KNOW”: What are we asked to know exactly? We are to know the rest of the verse.
  • “That I AM GOD!” Do you know that God is The GREAT I AM? “I AM” IS the only ONE God! He knows all and IS all. He was “I AM” before time existed. He is the creator of ALL and owns it all.

Pretty powerful verse to meditate on don’t you think? Can you see how just this one verse can literally change your life and bring harmony to it? Your Father wants to surround you with acceptance and absolute secure love because He knows our lives need it. What a Good, Good Father!!!

But wait there’s more to this verse!

  1.  Have a fresh encounter with Jesus in some of the ways we described above and write what He said to you.  Or simply praise Him for loving you and being such a great God and Savior.
  2. Do Psalm 46:10 and realize the result of doing the first part of the verse.  There is a second part of that same verse: “He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”  ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭46:10. Did you see it. His being exalted among the nations and in the earth starts as He is exalted in me, in you, in our families, our churches, communities, states, and nations!  So let’s Do The Book – Do Psalm 46:10!
  3. Now, with the real life-giving work done: having been still – alone with God; knowing and realizing He is God – (not me, not you or anyone / anything else we may have exalted to “god-status”), it is time to tell someone and discuss in real fellowship with another how great He is.  Praise God. Worship Him and His Son Jesus in the power of Holy Spirit. We will truly move our world closer to the position of Psalm 46:10 – starting in our own world!
