Celebrating 50 Years for at least a month or two or three! Giving Thanks!!

Life IS Hard at Times but Rarely Complicated

Studying the Old Testament kings of Israel(northern kingdom) and Judah (southern kingdom- wonder if they spoke Hebrew with a southern accent??) has reminded me of something truly profound. Here it is: “We human beings are messed up!” We want things and work for them, then we get some things but rarely appreciate them long enough to be satisfied until we are off looking for something else. Do you know what I mean?

Many of those kings added huge complexity to life for themselves, their people, and neighboring groups by their unwise, and dare I say “stupid” choices.

They either flat-our refused to follow God or they kept promising God that they’d obey Him and lead the people well, but then they’d chased after other “gods” that were more “exciting, fun, and allowed more sinful indulgence”. Sound familiar?

God loved them and the people and sent warning and/or judgment, only after He’d blessed their socks off with harvests, peace, wealth or provision, and conquest. Did the blessings make them grateful enough to submit and follow their loving God? Not usually or not for long.

They were plagued with the same problem that plagues me – a very short memory of the blessings from God and consequently, a short-lived era of gratitude and thankfulness. I intend to turn that around for the rest of my days…unless I forget again.

Our three children and their spouses and children just threw a party for Carol and me to celebrate our 50th anniversary coming up on December 30. What a great time we had visiting with many friends-old and new. Carol and I recounted so many stories of God’s great blessings on us as we fell into easy conversation with many of those in attendance. We also read the personal comments in the cards we received and remembered with humble thanks the lives who’ve influenced our own. What a life!

Here is what we have recalled!

Our life isn’t always easy, but it is not complicated. We don’t get to fix most situations – since attempts to control others simply complicates life. We get to speak truth in love, trust God for His outcomes, and enjoy the love He has for us and others. When this life is over, we will be with Him and our forever family! That ain’t complicated, friends. That’s simple truth.

Thank you for reading our 52 Week Plans and, by God’s grace, gleaning an encouraging and helpful word to make your walk a little more enjoyable and somewhat less complicated.
