Do You Understand the Words Comin’ Out of My Mouth?
Christmas, the celebration of Jesus’ birth, is God’s way of helping us understand the word coming out of His heart to us. His Word was and is Jesus.
Short Attention Span?
Ever had issues with a short attention span – yours or someone else’s? Apparently, that has been a problem plaguing mankind since the beginning of creation. Adam and Eve didn’t pay attention to God’s clear command about eating from every tree in the garden except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Genesis 2: 15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.16 And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”
Do you know that they did exactly what He told them not to do?
The nation of Israel had clear commands from God, given for their preservation and benefit from a God who loved them, but what did they do – over and over? They rebelled, disobeyed and suffered the consequences of their choices. Their short attention span and the sin nature cooperated.
As the Christmas season is upon us and much of the beauty of the season has been experienced and enjoyed, could you pause with me to listen to these words about THE Word – The Living Word.
John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
God’s expressions of His will, truth, and love have been appreciated and heeded by many down through the ages but not as many as He desired. He wants all people everywhere to be saved and recieve the mercy He has in store. Knowing that we human beings would need a clear, living example of His nature, power, and love, the Father sent His one and only Son into the world to show and tell God’s amazing grace and to personally invite us to join His family by adoption through faith. But an example is not what Jesus is ultimately. He is our one and only Savior.
Do you believe that the baby born 2000 years ago grew to be a man, lived a perfect life, died on a Roman cross as your substitute and paid a debt for sins He didn’t commit? He paid your debt and mine and the sin debt of the whole world. (1 John 2:2) Do you know why He did that? Love for you and me took Jesus to the cross and kept Him there until He died. Do you believe He was buried and then rose to life on the third day? Do you trust this Word of God to be God’s Word to us and His final and only offer for salvation and eternal life?
I do.
For about 56 years since I was 16 or so, I have needed to find NO other savior or rely on another word of truth for my eternal security. Oh, I have strayed at times to chase after a more flamboyant, attractive personality or idol, but it didn’t last long. I came back to the Word, the Living Word, Who set me free and keeps me because that is the kind of God He is.
Do you understand the words that are coming out of my heart? More importantly, do you accept the truth and love God reveals in Jesus Christ? That will make all the difference.
Here is more of that John 14 passage. Awesome stuff! Great words about the Greatest Word.
John 1:1-14
The Word Became Flesh
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it.
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
