Security (Peace): Establishing and maintaining harmony in our relationships and providing freedom from fear or threat of harm through expressions of vulnerability, deepening of trust, and the successful resolution of conflict. (Romans 12:16,18)
Do you work? What I mean is, do you have co-workers? Maybe you are the boss! Did you know you can be a person of peace and security for those with whom you work? Yes, even if you are the boss.
Think about the Godly influence you can be at your place of business. You spend a lot of time with these people! Maybe God would want to use you there. Are you willing to ask Him and listen?
Let’s take a look at what that may mean in this weeks 52 Week Plan.
Jesus – The Light of the World: (Jesus Meets Our Need For Security)
Can you imagine being on a boat in a great storm at sea?! Waves beating against the boat, winds tossing you about and fearing for your life? This is exactly what the disciples experienced all while Jesus slept on the boat! They woke Jesus up abruptly and in a panic. “Surely we are all going to die! Save us!”
Jesus stood and at His words “Be Calm,” the sea and wind obeyed.
Have you ever been in a storm? Maybe not a physical storm but an emotional or spiritual one? How did God calm your “ waves and wind”? Even while the “storm raged”, did you experience the “peace that passes understanding” knowing that Jesus has you in His care no matter what.
God wants us to have faith even when it looks like we might drown. He is our safe harbor in the midst of any storm. We can trust Him!
His Word – A lamp and a Light
Let’s do: Romans 12
Will you please take a moment to go and read the chapter before continuing?
As you read this chapter, would you ask God how he can use you at your place of business? Do you desire to live your life as described here so that your relationships with your co-workers can be secure? You may be the only person in a co-worker’s life who shows care and support. Especially if you are the boss, how wonderful would it be that your employees feel secure in coming to you for help, advice and wisdom with their jobs? You could help your employees feel that they matter and are not just a number or a resource for the company.
Boss or employee, you can make a difference at your job. By being honest and appropriately vulnerable, you can lead by example. Your workplace or work cube can be a place of secure friendship and trust.
You And I Are “The Light of the World” – Jesus Said So.
This Little Light Of Mine,
I’m gonna let it shine,
This Little Light Of Mine,
I’m gonna let it shine,
This Little Light Of Mine,
Yes, I’m gonna let it shine,
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine
Do you remember this song from your early years? The words could not be more relevant in this world of insecurity.!
When I, (Linda) was in the corporate world, I faced situations when I thought, “I’m gonna lose my religion!” In fact there was a time when I lost it, and I had to go back and apologize to all involved. Have you been there? How did you handle it?
The reason I went back and gathered all involved and apologized was because I didn’t represent Christ during my wrong reaction. That hurt my heart the most, since those I worked with knew I am a believer.
We make choices daily on how we reflect Christ to others, don’t we? After a time when we have blown it and respond inappropriately – not in a “speaking the truth in love” way, we can ask for forgiveness and show our vulnerability to others. Maybe in doing so others will come to know God’s character and love more accurately in our place of business. I do believe God can use all our work situations for His Glory.
So…will you choose to be one of the “safe” ones in your workplace? Will you reflect trust, honesty and integrity to your work world and build relationships there? Let your little light shine, friend, and don’t let Satan blow it out!
