Underestimating the Lord Jesus? Guilty as charged!
Preparing to teach a Bible study recently, I had the thought of how much I had and have
underes;mated my Lord Jesus. He is so much more powerfully amazing and loving than I ever
imagined or will ever hope to imagine. After all, He is God; and; therefore, his thoughts and ways are higher than mine as scripture reveals. (Isaiah 55:9)
Before coming to know Jesus and then receiving Him as my Savior, I underestimated His ability to
forgive and receive me based on His grace and my faith both of which are gifts. . I thought I had to be good enough to be acceptable – good enough to go to heaven. Coming to faith as a teenage boy, I underestimated Him again, as I thought I could just live my life doing what came naturally or what I felt was right, only to discover that I needed His truth from Holy Scripture and the leadership of Holy Spirit to, not only guide me into that truth, but also to apply it. Prayer, reading, studying, thinking, learning, and memorizing scripture then meditating on His Word became absolutely crucial to the abundant life He offered.
I wish I could say that I stopped underestimating Him, but I continued that very limiting practice. Listening to the wisdom of God as it related to every relationship forced its way into a top priority as I struggled with relationships all around me. He knew what He was doing, but I had to find out how much higher His ways and thoughts are above my own. Mine didn’t work. His did and still do.
He has shown me that in matters of health, finance, marriage, parenting, love, success in life,
priorities, grandparenting, and a host of other areas, His ways are right and good. His will is
good and perfect. So, I am here to tell you that His ways are the best ways. The Good News of
Jesus Christ has radically changed and freed me to discover this fact:
The Good News of Jesus is Even Better News than I had Imagined – not just for eternity – where
I will need no faith – but also for here while I am still living by faith.
You say, “How do you know about eternity since you haven’t lived there yet?” I stand on the
revealed truth that Jesus has saved me from hell and will keep me His very own throughout eternity.
