Support: Coming alongside others and providing gentle, appropriate assistance with a problem or struggle. (Galatians 6:2)
My pastor sent out an email to all of the Lifegroup (small group) leaders at my church, asking about those in their group that may have needs. The church then compiled all of the needs and on a Sunday after church a tent was set up for the congregation to sign up to fill a need. The needs ranged from bills that needed to be paid to cheering up someone going through a tough time by giving them an encouraging gift.
This is church! Being the hands and feet of Jesus to support those within your church family!
Do you see anyone in need at your church? Maybe you know someone that is walking through a difficult season. Maybe you can be the feet and hands of Jesus to them and support them through this time.
THREE SOURCES OF LIGHT – Help Us Experience Support
Light Source #1: Jesus is the Light of the World (John 8:12)
Walking in the Light: Having a fresh encounter with Jesus.
In Exodus 17:8-12 we read about how Aaron and Hur physically held up Moses’ arms as the Israelites fought the Amalekites. As long as Moses’ arms were up, they were winning; but if he dropped his arms, they started to lose. Moses’ arms of course grew tired, so Aaron and Hur supported them for him.
How has God supported you? Has he ever “held up” your arms? Do you think God used Aaron and Hur just because they were in a battle or do you think He will help us all in everyday battles?
There are times when we just don’t have the strength to stay in the fight, and we need the support of others to lift us up. Two thoughts here:
- If you are the one that needs support, would you please tell a trusted loved one in your life? Your loved ones may not know and would absolutely come around you for support if they knew.
- If you know someone in your “circle of influence” that needs a little support, would you ask God how He might use you to meet that need?
Light Source #2: God’s Word is a lamp and a light, so walk in the light of frequent experiences of doing His Word. Psalm 119: 105
Let’s do:
Luke 12: 34
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Where is your treasure? Put another way…what is your treasure? Your kids, your money, your body, your possessions, God???
We will be the most focused and spend the most time in/on what we treasure most.
This week let our prayer be:
Father, forgive me for what I have treasured more than you. Help me to treasure YOU first and give me a heart for your children. May I be your hands and feet and be a support to those around me. Give me eyes to see what You see, ears to hear, and a heart that is moved. May I treasure what You treasure the most! In Jesus’ name…Amen
Light Source #3: God’s people are sources of light so walk in real fellowship with believers and others: “the light of the world.” Matthew 5:14
What are your next steps after praying the prayer above for the week?
Is there someone you know of now that could really use some support?
Will you answer the call to be Jesus’ hands and feet to those in your circle of influence? You might start at home and then look around to help others.
Your support could be the lifeline someone needs today!
