Support: Coming alongside others and providing gentle, appropriate assistance with a problem or struggle. (Galatians 6:2)
Just today as I (Linda) sit here to write the 52 Week Plan, a sweet friend sends a text that says, “Just Saying hello! Hope all is well.” Did she know I was having “A Day!?” You have had them, right? You get up in the morning and everything seems to go backwards all day! That was my day today, and my sweet friend didn’t even realize she was supporting me just by that little text!
I just love how God uses his children to reach and support each other! Maybe she was prompted by the Spirit to reach out to me, I don’t know, but I do know God used her to lift my spirit!
Have you ever had a prompting such as this? I have had times when I see someone upset, a stranger even, and I feel (hear) Holy Spirit saying, “Go to them!” “What? They will think I am crazy!” I say. But, when I have been obedient…God moved greatly! When I dismissed the Spirit, I had regret for not being the blessing God wanted me to be. Have you been there?
Let’s take a look within your own circle of influence and relationship. Anyone struggling, going through a difficult time? How can you be a support to them? Maybe a simple text, as my friend sent me today? Maybe a gift card, invitation to dinner, flowers, a real card that is delivered to their mailbox – any of these could help another feel supported and special? So many ways can be a support that says, “I am here for you!” A small gesture can go such a long way to support someone who is struggling.
Galatians 6:2 says: “Carry one another’s burdens.” If you are prompted by the Spirit to text or reach out to someone, don’t hesitate! You might think it will look weird or be awkward, but go ahead, trust The Spirit and reach out. It may be a blessing to someone rather than just be, well…awkward or weird! I’d rather be obedient to what I think the Spirit is prompting than to not be obedient and miss a God-appointed opportunity! Do you agree?
