Have Any Trouble Guessing Who This Image Is Supposed to Bring to Mind?
“Didn’t Think So!”
One of the iconic phrases most recognizable as coming from Elvis was his “Thank you, thank you very much.” Right? He’d slur it a bit and sometimes add “Thank you, Ladies and Gentlemen”. I wonder how much he felt appreciated and valued. His life has some really high highs and some really low lows. At times he must have been very conflicted knowing whether he was appreciated or just used as an idol but not truly loved.
We lived in Memphis for about 10 years during his life and a few times joined the throng of folks waiting outside his home at Graceland for a glimpse of the Kine of Rock and Roll. My point is simple: do those in your life know that you appreciate them and are aware of how much they do to bless you, make your life better, and in some way contribute to your life’s happiness.
Perhaps you could list 4 or 5 folks in your life who play key roles in relationships with you:
Would you take a short time to think of ways you could appreciate, say thanks, reward their work or effort, do something to let them know that you appreciate and value what they do and how they have contributed to your life?
(One thought is to write down a few ways you like to be rewarded, noticed, appreciated and thanked.)
How can you show appreciation to #1 above?
How can you show appreciation to #2 above?
How can you show appreciation to #3 above?
How can you show appreciation to #4 above?
How can you show appreciation to #5 above?
Now for the last person to whom you and I can show/share thanks and appreciation, how about listing Jesus (God, Holy Spirit) and praising Him with thanks and appreciation?
How would you express your gratitude in a prayer of thanksgiving to God for His work in your life and in the lives of those you love?

This song has an almost haunting (in a good way) message in my view. I don’t know David Wilcox’s story, but this song points me to the Savior Jesus Who found me, rescued me, and changed my life from certain despair to hopeful progress and unconditional love from God.
