Security (Peace): Establishing and maintaining harmony in our relationships and providing freedom from fear or threat of harm through expressions of vulnerability, deepening of trust, and the successful resolution of conflict. (Romans 12:16,18)
Our homes should be our refuge. A place where we feel safe and secure. What helps you feel safe and secure at home? Is it knowing where your finances are allocated and if you have enough? Do you like your home and schedule to be orderly? Do you like things to be predictable? Do you rely on your family and friends to hold you up no matter what? Do you need security alarms and cameras in your home? We may be unique in what helps us feel completely safe and secure, but some things are pretty common.
Our children will feel the need for security a bit differently than adults. Monsters under the bed, bullies at school, tests, peers, all will drive their need to feel secure at home and with you, their parents. They will need security in your words, comfort, encouragement, reassurance and love.
What if you are a single adult? Where does your security come from? Is it met through friends, parents, siblings, co-workers? You also may have a different set of security needs. Will I ever meet someone? Where/How will I meet someone? Can I afford to live on my own? What if I lose my job? Who do I have by my side when I need a listening ear or encouragement?
In all of these life scenarios, God is our ultimate place of security. He alone can give us perfect peace when we call on Him! Even if all things/people fail us, God never will. We can always cry out to Him and He will listen.
- Remember a time of insecurity where God sent His resources or people to help remove your insecurity or anxiety. Can you recall a time when He did that for you in prayer, worship, Bible reading, or the Holy Spirit breaking through the noise of life to remind you that God knows, He cares , and He has a plan!
- A passage that we are currently experiencing is Isaiah 26:3. Running to our Savior for help and focus is not a one-time event. It may be daily or hourly or even more often at times. When our heart begins to worry and fear, God is, can be, wants to be our ultimate and best source of hope and regaining control over runaway thoughts.
- Please tell a friend/family a time when you were fearful or insecure and how God met you and helped you personally or through others He sent as His emissaries!
