Have You Ever Laughed Till You Cried?
Don’t you just love to laugh? How long has it been since you just had a little chuckle or a belly laugh? How long since you laughed until your eyes watered – laughed till you cried?
Our almost 4 year old grandson and I made up a new game. Well, actually, he thought of it and I went along. We think of two animals then swap the first letters of each name to create two new animal names. Take a “lizard” and a “dog” and create a “dizard” and a “log”. We have had so much fun with that game. Some of the combinations sound hilarious. We get the whole family engaged over a meal with that one. We laugh!
Whether or not you liked the outcome of the recent presidential election, our world seems to have too many people who don’t seem to know how to laugh much or the stuff they laugh about is cruel or demeaning or dirty. There are some who have such difficult lives that they have forgotten how to laugh, and I know there are times to laugh and times to cry or be serious. Maybe it is time to have some serious fun and plan on it.
Perhaps the youtube link after the list below can be a good starter.
We can be serous another time, but the Bible states in Proverbs 17:22 “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” Let’s take a break and just be with folks we enjoy and have fun together.
- Play games everyone enjoys (get some suggestions from those attending)
- Watch a clean, funny movie (Mom’s Night Out is hilarious; “Emperor’s New Groove” is good too.)
- Cook a meal or bake something together.
- Do a progressive dinner with some friends. House to house with a plan.
- Go out to dinner and a movie (if you can find a clean, funny one)
- Play “name that tune” with songs from your era.
- Find some clean, funny YouTube comedians – Tim Hawkins, Bryan Regan, Nate Bargatze, Michael Jr, etc (any of the choices should be previewed before viewing with guests)
- Check out some sites with “funny billboards” but be careful – some are not appropriate
- Go out to a sporting event/play/concert and dinner/coffee.
- Do a scavenger hunt – be careful about who drives the cars. Some think drag racing to finish first is ok.
(Can you tell I used to be a youth minister?)
