“This Is Not a Test…. This is the Real Thing”
When I heard this song by TobyMac a few years ago, I thought it was clever, but now I realize it is profound. You might want to listen to it and watch the Youtube video to see what I am talking about:
So, we are here for a relatively short time on this planet, and then we will spend eternity somewhere. We’ll either be with Jesus, as God desires and designed, or we’ll be eternally separated from God if we choose to reject the mercy, forgiveness, and life that Jesus purchased with His death on the cross. So, this life we live is not “just a test” or a pilot program that we’ll have a chance to relive some day in another life or on another planet.
Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the real thing. We get to live here on this rotating sphere for a time that seems and is shorter with every passing day. (James 4:14- see below) It is a privilege to live – physically on this earth. It is another level of privilege to love and be loved while we are here in human relationships, and it is the supreme gift to live here, come to saving faith in Jesus Christ, then launch from here one day, not to go to another planet, but to live eternally with Jesus in the place He calls Heaven.
This life is the “real thing”, and we dare not waste it on just our own needs and wants, when God has so much more for us.
What do you say? What do you do? Are you living life like it is going to always be the same, and you’ll always be here? Or, are you living life with eternity in mind knowing that this life is your chance to invest in eternity? What will it be for you? Where will you spend eternity – heaven? … 0r hell?
