What A Difference A Laser Makes

What a Difference A Laser Makes

In the fourth grade, I was asked by my teacher Mrs. Moore to move my desk close enough to the board to see the writing clearly. She had noticed that I was squinting. I began to scoot the desk and ended with my desk against the wall where the board was hanging. That is how bad my vision was. After my mom took me to the optometrist and bought glasses for me, I was introduced to an entirely new world…a world of details, leaves, feathers on birds, writing on the board, and features of faces..even at a distance. It was wonderful!

After many years, cataracts grew on my eyes and clouded my vision. Through the marvel of modern technology, those cloudy lenses were replaced by prescription lens replacing the old lenses in my eyes. It was wonderful again. Those cataracts had gradually formed to limit my vision and cause me to no longer see clearly.

Today, after 3-4 years with the new implanted lenses, the laser was employed again to remove deposits from the back of the lens and my vision was back on track and wonderfully clear. What a difference 3 minutes of laser treatment made.

At times my spiritual vision gets cloudy and blurred. I don’t see my Lord Jesus as clearly as before or clearly interpret His leading in my life. I need the work of God’s presence and His Word to correct my vision. I need to listen in prayer and not simply talk all the time. I need to take the time to let Him correct my vision particularly as it relates to my love for Him and accepting His love for me. I need to believe again what I already know. He loved me first. Psalm 46:10

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;

    I will be exalted among the nations,

    I will be exalted in the earth.”

The next important vision correction involves others in my life who need to be loved and to clearly see God’s love alive in me, through me, for me.

How is your vision of God today? How well do you see your own needs and the needs of others? How much more enjoyable is seeing clearly than struggling to determine details and direction and the road signs along the way.
