Who Says There Is No God?  The Fool?

The Fool Has Said “There Is No God”.

Question to Contemplate and to Discuss:

  1. What are some of the ways that you have been looking for answers to your God-questions?
  2. What convinced you that God “is and He rewards those who diligently seek Him”? Hebrews 11:6

Have you ever wondered if God is real or if there are other “gods” in competition with THE God? Many of us have questioned God’s existence or wondered where He originated only to discover that He is real and has no competition. Aren’t we glad!!

The more I learn about our Heavenly Father, the more I am thrilled to know He is who He is and does what He does(Psalm 46:10). First of all, God is love (I John 4:16) and from His love created all things for His pleasure (Revelations 4:11) and even has our pleasure woven into the present and future.(Psalm 16:11) Because He originated love and loved us first (1 John 4:19), He created mankind(starting with Adam in the Garden of Eden), brought Eve to Adam to removed Adam’s aloneness, and gave Adam and Eve dominion over creation and the command to be fruitful, multiply, and replenish the earth.

As I understand it, He gave them space to live and fulfill their new roles and life together, as well as, visited with them regularly, daily, to enjoy being their “Father”. Now that is a great deal! Even after they sinned in eating of the forbidden fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, God promised them that Messiah would come to make things right for a fallen race (Genesis 3:15), who with their sin, had brought death into the world. He loves them and us so much that He placed the punishment for original and continual sin on Jesus Christ, Whose love for us took Him to the cross to die a horrible death.

But God raised Jesus from the dead after 3 days, and now Jesus is at the right hand of the Father making intercession for us. Why? He loves us still; that’s why!

Of course I can’t scientifically prove any of this, but we have to determine what is not only possible but also probable. I read about a man who as a Christian educator was hired onto the faculty of a large eastern ivy league university. Let’s call him Prof A. Prof A’s reputation as a Christian leader had preceded him, and some of the faculty was waiting to challenge him.

In one confrontation another member of the faculty, whom we will call Prof B, asked this newly hired Christian, “Why do you believe all these myths about the Bible, God, Jesus, and Christianity?” Prof A’s response was clear. He answered, “I choose to believe, and based on years of following Christ, studying the Bible and the evidence for God’s existence, I believe my conclusions are right.” His final statement before walking away from this challenge might seem harsh, but my guess is that it probably led to further discussions. Prof A said, “If I am right and I believe I am, those of you who don’t believe in these “myths”, as you called them, are in a lot of trouble.”

Psalm 14:1 is clear. “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no god.’ Romans 1:20 also makes it clear that there are no excuses for unbelief that will stand the test at the judgment. I don’t know all the ways of God, but this I believe. God reveals Himself to every person in ways to communicate His existence and His loving provision, but not everyone comes to faith. To anyone who honestly responds to God’s gift of light, He reveals more light because “It is not His will that any should perish but that all should come to repentance”. (2 Peter 3:9) Don’t you wish everyone would come to Jesus?

In fact Ezekiel 33:11 and Matthew 11:28-30 are passages that reveal the heart of our God. “Come to me” and “why will you die” express God’s heart of love for mankind. You and I are blessed in that we’ve heard and read the Gospel of Jesus Christ over and over. We certainly have no excuses for not believing the truth and the evidence of it.

Look around at creation, at a baby, at the seasons, at the microscopic world, at the vast universe, at Jesus and His loving Gospel and believe Him, receive Him, live for Him. (John 14:6)
